Setting ourselves apart from most regular city tours, the Penang Heritage & Culinary Experience is expressly crafted with the objective of exhilarating your sensory instincts every step of the way.
Led by one of our own native Penangite, the Golden Rooster Package is tailored for the early risers. It takes you through one of the daily activities closest to the hearts of the local people – pasar shopping. Absorb the sights, sounds and smells of the market abuzz with life, where boisterous stall keepers compete with one another to sell their equally colorful goods and wares. Perhaps you might pick up a skill or two on the art of bargaining. In and around the pasar are food stalls selling an assortment of local Malaysian and Penang delights, so this is the time to open up your ang paos and spend the money on a scrumptious breakfast.
After breakfast, the tour continues as you are guided through Lorong Bangkok (Bangkok Lane), where stories of long ago still linger. Listen to the story of how one entrepreneur's vision and aspirations led him to build a row of houses for his descendents, which are today heritage houses that line both sides of Bangkok Lane, making it one of the most unique and picturesque streets in all of Penang. Peek into some of these houses and you may even spot a vintage car here, or an antique clock there. The end of Bangkok Lane meets the crossroad of Jalan Burma (Burma Road), and this is where the original Thai/Burmese settlement area is in Penang. Witness for your self the grandeur and splendor of the the Wat Chaiyamangkalaram Temple, which houses the famed Reclining Buddha statue, and the nearby Dhammikarama Burmese Temple.
