Pa∙lan∙quin [noun] a passenger conveyance formerly used in South and Eastern Asia, comprising a covered litter (vehicle) or boxlike sedan, borne on the shoulders of two or more bearers by means of poles.

Also known as jiao in China, kago in Japan, gama in Korea, jempana in Indonesia, and other terms in traditional cultures around the world, palanquins have carried and housed royalty, warriors, the nobles and the elite through many a great distances. It becomes a place of rest during long journeys as the affluent had beds in them. The palanquin symbolized status, class, and comfort for the voyage away from home.

Our inaugural project, PalanquInn, is an inspired adaption of the original form. PalanquInn is a captivating boutique Bed & Breakfast, comprising two lovely and private heritage suites, located on Bangkok Lane on the island of Penang, Malaysia. Our property is among the collection of colonial pre-war townhouses dating back to the 1920s, where two beautiful rows of heritage houses line this street, immortalized in time.

At PalanquInn, experience for yourself the legacy of its rich heritage and the intimacy of a comfortable and personalized milieu during your sojourn in Penang.
